For most devices, the Ports device setup class and the Serial function driver provide the functionality required to operate serial ports and COM ports. To install serial ports and COM ports using these system-supplied components, do the following:

When you plug the device into your USB, Windows will look for the associated driver, if it cannot find this driver then you will be prompted to insert the driver disc that came with your device. Common USB Device errors are ‘ usb port not working ‘, ‘device descriptor request failed error’ or ‘bugcodeusbdriver’ issues. Click 'Start' then right click on 'Computer' button and then click on properties. Click on the 'Device Manager' selection on the left. Select 'Universal Serial Bus controllers' then double. The D-Link 7-Port Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Hub allows you to connect up to seven USB peripherals or devices to your USB ready PC or Mac. Designed to provide quick and easy access, the hub provides seven type ‘A’ downstream ports for connecting USB peripherals, devices or other USB hubs. A single type ‘B’ upstream port is provided for connecting to the host computer, or another USB hub.

  • Provide an INF file that specifies the Ports device setup class and the Serial function driver as the service for the port.

  • To configure a serial port as COM port, comply with the requirements that are defined in Configuration of COM Ports.

The Microsoft USB Test Tool (MUTT) software package contains test tools for hardware test engineers to test interoperability of their USB controller or hub with the Microsoft USB driver stack. The included documentation provides a brief overview of the different types of MUTT hardware and suggests topologies for controller, hub, device, and BIOS/UEFI testing. The documentation also contains procedural information about how to run the tests, trace events in the USB driver stack, and capture information in the kernel debugger.

MuttUtil
  • Updates the firmware of the test devices.
  • Installs drivers for MUTT devices.
  • Verifies that the devices are installed without errors.
  • Changes the operating bus speed of the device.
  • Configures the device to send a resume wake signal after a specified time period.
  • For the MUTT Pack, it sets the hub to operate at full or high speed; as a single-TT or multi-TT hub.
